As some of you may know I started a YouTube channel recently and have been slowly indulging myself in the world of film. A lot of my inspiration comes from the greats like Casey Neistat, Roman Atwood, Peter McKinnon, and the entire group at Yes Theory. All of which were my go to's when I was in middle school and then high school. Now I look back from time to time but this morning I had an URGE to just get up and watch old videos from Casey Neistat. The one that really hit home was his Snowboarding in NYC short film. It's about 2mins 30secs and it's incredible. It's simple and something no one had ever done at the time, at least not online. But it was the sweet nostalgia of that video that lead me down a rabbit hole of watching 2-3 hours of his old and new content while paying attention to his editing style and his unreal story telling ways. Those few hours this morning hit hard. I simply loved the idea of working towards understanding film more and the process surrounding it. From directing to filming to editing to sharing. I found joy in simply thinking about doing it myself. In the shower I started to brainstorm random concepts to get me started and even hopped out the shower with it running to type the idea in my notes. To learn how to build a story and create a master piece (and most definitely some horrific pieces that are meant to be stepping stones to help me along the way and I'll be grateful for those too) that I'm proud of. I already started my journey by picking up my camera and just recording a few weeks back. Now it's time to create my own films and truly experience a journey many have taken but not with my personal style and brain manning the ship. It's my journey with my twist. With eagerness and hunger to enjoy every moment of it but do it to the best of my abilities. My first few one's I will be posting aren't going to be anything major but I can't wait for us all to see what's being produced in a year from now, even 2 or 3 or 4 years down the line. But yeah, I'm grateful for people that I can look towards for inspiration and for all those that you guys may even look up to :)
